Gardening and Mother’s Day

I remember those times when I was still studying in High School when my mother started installing pieces of driftwood in our front lawn. She was planning to put up an orchid and flower garden that time and had prepared quite a considerable number of small pots where the orchids would grow. On top of that, she also had a few bonsai pieces strewn here and there and the garden was quite a relaxing thing to behold.

Now that we’ve started with our urban farm, me and my wife assigned ourselves on separate farm duties – I’ll take care of the animals and she’ll take care of the vegetable and herb garden. On top of my free-range chickens, we were also raising rabbits, game chickens, and Red Tilapia in drums. My wife, on the other hand, had quite a few successes with her vegetable garden and already harvested bokchoy, Chinese cabbage, okra and cassava. I’ll describe all of these produce on my next posts.

Despite all that, I noticed that we lacked some things – flowers and other ornamental plants just like what mom used to nurture. That would be the next project as we had to clear another area in our urban farm specifically for such plants.

Come to think of it, Mother’s day is fast approaching and the best time to prepare for a gift to mothers would be several days or weeks ahead of time to avoid rushes and poor choices. I would recommend a Mothers Day plant like an orchid or a beautiful bouquet of flowers. If she has a green thumb just like my mom, give her an amazing bonsai gift made from gardenia or azalea.

Another great Mothers day plant gift suggestion would be sets of herbal plants like rosemary, bay leaf and other mint or herbal plants. Your mom would find such gifts excellent and start her on a new project to pursue.

Whatever gift you would give your moms this coming Mother’s Day celebrations would be a welcome thing for her – particularly if the gift was given with an abundance of love.
